La Frontera
WHAT I DID
Logo, Brand Identity
OVERVIEW
La Frontera is a Filipino-Mexican eatery located near
The University of Santo Thomas in Manila. By blending
the two culinary traditions, they aim to introduce Mexican cuisine to the local market while still appealing to Filipino tastes. I was tasked with designing a charming logo that embodies both cultural influences and resonates with their target audience, primarily university students.
After studying patterns from indigenous communities in the Philippines and traditional Mexican designs, I discovered shared visual elements between the two. Initially seeking
a unique shape for the logo icon, I later recognized its resemblance to a taco!
Through multiple design attempts, we settled on incorporating a sun symbol as the central element of the icon. This choice draws inspiration from the sun depicted on the Philippine flag, complemented by patterns reminiscent of Mexican tiles.
The client desired a palette with bright colors to capture the essence of a fiesta.
I selected a range of vibrant hues that were lively yet not too overpowering.
I am delighted with the outcome as it not only catches the eye but also symbolizes
the joy of flavors that diners will enjoy.
In addition, I opted for a vintage serif as the primary font to establish a connection to the typical Mexican restaurant theme while infusing a touch of modernity and youthfulness.
